Teryl R. ("Terry") Gorrell
Shareholder

Teryl is a shareholder of the firm of Gorrell Giles PC, which concentrates its practice in the area of real estate, finance, banking and entity representation. Prior to forming Gorrell Giles in 2003, he was Managing Partner of Moye, Giles, O’Keefe, Vermeire and Gorrell LLP, where he also served as Chairman of the Real Estate Group.

Teryl has practiced real estate law for over thirty years. He represents developers and capital providers in the structuring, development and operation of a wide variety of projects in the United States and Mexico. These include commercial, medical, industrial, retail, resort, residential, condominium, affordable housing, historic preservation and mixed use developments. His work includes analysis of property rights, land acquisition, conveyancing, title assurance, entitlements, zoning, land use planning, entity structuring, financing, construction, management, leasing and sales. These projects frequently require complex capital structuring involving joint ventures, limited liability companies, limited partnerships, corporations, foreign entities, public/private ventures, horizontal and vertical lenders, and tax credit and tax increment financing.

Additionally, he has served as special counsel to governmental entities on land use issues and has represented title insurance underwriters and agencies on title insurance, closing and regulatory matters. He has served as a lead Valuation Commissioner in complex condemnation proceedings. His work has included dispute resolution of real estate related claims, through litigation, arbitration and administrative proceedings, as well as serving as mediator, arbitrator and expert witness in the resolution of complex real estate and title insurance disputes.

Teryl brings to his practice a practical knowledge of real estate development. Prior to becoming a lawyer he worked for a number of years in his family’s real estate business, where he learned the operational and financial aspects of residential, industrial and commercial development and leasing. He continues to engage in commercial real estate development.

Teryl was a principal drafter of legislation authorizing the electronic recording of documents by the Clerks and Recorders in the State of Colorado. He lectures to both professional associations and trade associations on real estate and title insurance topics. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Historic Denver, Inc., a highly respected non-profit organization that provides advocacy, education and services for the preservation and adaptive reuse of historical buildings.

Terry was selected as one of Colorado’s Super Lawyers for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 by Law & Politics and 5280 Magazine. Teryl also has been named as one of the Best Real Estate Lawyers in America 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
